Leadership, advice and more featuring Early Childhood Education & Care, Kool Kidz Owner & Approved Provider Nicole Llewellyn

We are driven by our passion for the industries we work in and always focused on our students success. Having the right partners who are providing community services that are the best of the best is essential for us to set our students up for success.

AT FYI Education & Training we guarantee students practical placement during their Early Childhood & Education Care courses. We aim to provide the most impactful opportunity for students to give them real work experience allowing them to get hands on mentoring in their field.

We sat down with Nicole, the Owner and Approved Provider at Kool Kidz, a leading Childcare facility and here are some of the highlights.

Developing the workforce

Looking at Kool Kidz Management training, they are committed to seeing their staff grow and support from management via provisional development reviewing the below elements.

“We see a large gap for leadership across the sector, our training helps provide upskill opportunity for our staff” - Nicole , Kool Kidz

  • Self-Reflections: Who am I – understanding self

  • Looking at their own philosophy – who am I? What do I believe in as an individual and as an educator/leader?

  • Reviewing the National Quality Standards and each of the Quality Areas including Quality Area 1 – Be Part of Reconciliation

  • Position description – going through this thoroughly

  • Creating organisation culture of dreams & how staff can shape the culture themselves

Advice on getting a job from practical placement

“Ask for help when you need it. You need confidence but not cockiness. You need to develop the foundation skills before you get into certain roles. You need the social skills as well as relationship with children, parents and other educators before advancing into management.” - Nicole , Kool Kidz

“At the end of the day, you won’t be able to work somewhere where you love everyone. But every situation you come against is there to make you stronger.” - Nicole , Kool Kidz

Advice on work life balance

“I try and switch off end of the day & go home and have that work life balance. I don’t want you to take work home. That just feeds into the perception in the sector of being overworked and under paid. Choose to work your hours give 120% and leave it because the work I doing to be there tomorrow.” - Nicole , Kool Kidz

Hear from previous FYI students who did placement at Kool Kids and now are employed by Kool Kidz directly from their practical placement:

“It’s pretty easy, and everyone has been very helpful, my mum and sister are even training with FYI Education & Training now” - Lauren, previous FYI student currently now working at Kool Kidz.

“Everyone has been really helpful and it’s been super easy” - Semar, previous FYI student now working at Kool Kidz.

“If you don’t like school there are other options and pathways to go through”  - Maddi. Previous FYI student currently working at Kool Kidz. After recognising that school wasn’t for Maddie, she enrolled at 16 into our ECEC certificate. Having just recently turned 18, she has already completed her certificate and went on and found a permanent job through her work placement at Kool Kidz.
